Boris Johnson resigned as party leader. Any candidate who fails to secure the support of 30 MPs in the first round of elections will be expelled.
London: There was a complaint of corruption in the cabinet led by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The party was rocked by a recent scandal involving former deputy chief whip Christopher Pincer. Following this, 30 high-ranking government officials resigned, including UK Health Minister Sajid Javid and Indian-origin MP Rishi Sunak.
A total of 58 ministers left the government. As a result, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was forced to resign. Johnson stepped down on Thursday last week after his close colleague, Treasury chief Nadeem Zaghawi, asked him to step down in the country’s interest.
However, he will continue in this position until a new Prime Minister is chosen. Johnson also stepped down as leader of the Conservative Party. So the process of electing a new leader of the Conservative Party is about to begin soon.
Following the resignation of Boris Johnson, various people have entered the race to become the new Prime Minister. Among them, Indian-born MP Rishi Sunak, who served as finance minister in Johnson’s cabinet, announced his candidacy for the new prime minister last Friday.
Similarly, Pakistan-origin health minister Sajid Javid, who resigned from the cabinet, transport minister Grand Shapes and former foreign minister Jeremy Hunt are also in the running. Also, Attorney General Suillah Bravermen, Iraqi-origin Nadeem Zaghavi, Nigerian-origin Kemi Bedenak, and Tom Dugentat also became candidates.
Trade Minister Benny Mordant is also in the running. In this context, the country’s Foreign Minister Liz Truss has entered the race for the position of the new Prime Minister of England. He has also expressed his desire to be the leader of the Conservative Party.
For this, he went to attend the G20 conference in Indonesia and immediately finished it and returned to London. MP Liz’s announcement brings to 11 the number of candidates in the running for the UK’s next Prime Minister, amid the Rahman Sisti race.
Johnson, 58, has been in power for three years and has been accused of close ties to party donors. He has been defending his supporters who have been involved in indecency and accused of corruption. He misled the Parliament and behaved dishonestly to the public.
Allegations were raised against him that he had violated the curfew rules during the Corona pandemic. However, it is said that he may remain in office till next October. It is said that after that the annual meeting of the Conservative Party will be held and steps will be taken to choose another person to replace Johnson.
In this case, 3 people namely Transport Minister Grand Shapes, former Health Minister Sajid Javid and Foreign Minister Rahman Chisti have withdrawn from the race for the UK Prime Minister Election. Thus, there are finally 8 candidates in this election.
All of them have the support of 20 members of the Conservative Party. Following this, they will compete in the first round of voting. The reservation of candidates to contest the election has been completed. Any candidate who fails to secure the support of 30 MPs in the first round of elections will be expelled.
The new Conservative leader will be chosen in a 2-stage election. For this, 358 members will participate in subsequent expulsion polls, reducing the number of candidates. Eventually it will be reduced to 2 candidates. Many who are contesting in this election have promised to reduce taxes including corporation tax and income tax. The candidates have taken it into their hands in the context of the crisis in the people of England.
