Former Tata CEO Cyrus Mistry dies in car accident


Mumbai: Former chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry, died in a car accident. He is 54 years old.

Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons Group, was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car today (Sunday). Then his car unexpectedly collided with the retaining wall of the bridge over Suriya river at Balkar near Mumbai. Two people including Cyrus Mistry died in the accident. Police are actively investigating the accident.

Prime Minister’s condolence: On the demise of Cyrus Mistry, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Cyrus Mistry’s demise is shocking. He was a promising business leader. His demise is a great loss to the trade and industry sector. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”

who is he? – In 1965 Cyrus Mistry’s father Balonji Mistry bought shares in Tata Sons. In 1980, he was appointed as a director of Tata Sons. He retired from the post in 2004. Cyrus Mistry joined the Tata Sons Group in 2004. In 2012, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of Tata Sons.

Later, Cyrus Mistry was removed as Executive Chairman due to differences with Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata. Subsequently, Tata Sons was removed from the directorship of the board of directors. Mistry approached the National Law Board (NCLT) regarding the dismissal but did not get a favorable verdict. He then appealed to the tribunal. The tribunal declared Mistry’s dismissal “void”. However, it is notable that he did not want to be the leader again and moved on to the next level.
