Iconic country music star Dolly Parton isn’t keen on seeing her goddaughter Miley Cyrus as a brunette. In an interview, Cyrus shared a moment when Parton “clutched her pearls” over the thought of her switching up her blonde looks and going brunette. 

When asked about the moment, Parton praised Cyrus’s blonde look and revealed why she believes it fits her best. The two artists had recently shared an iconic performance at Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, where they sang a medley of their hits “Wrecking Ball” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus, renowned for their vocal range and iconic blonde locks, share a close-knit relationship as godmother and goddaughter. During an interview with Today host Hoda Kotb, Cyrus recounted a surprising reaction from her godmother when she mentioned the idea of returning to being a brunette.

In the conversation, Cyrus shared she had casually mentioned to Parton that she was considering dyeing her hair brunette as a way to switch things up. To her surprise, Parton’s reaction was sheer terror. 

Cyrus recalled her godmother acting like she had heard the worst news. She said, “She [Parton] clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back, and she goes, ‘You can’t do that. You are me.’”

In a recent interview with Insider discussing her latest line of Southern baked goods with Duncan Hines, Parton discussed the moment with Cyrus. During the discussion, the legendary country singer shared her thoughts and expressed her admiration for Cyrus’s blonde look, saying, 

“Miley just seems like a blonde to me. She’s a bombshell, period.”

She continued, “I think she’s wonderful. Of course, she has the dark stuff in her hair now. But you know Miley, she’s going to be something different tomorrow. She’s going to look fashionable.” Parton added, “She’s going to do what she does.”

The “Jolene” hitmaker also expressed her unwavering support for Cyrus’s individuality, appreciating her fearlessness in expressing herself. She stated, “We accept Miley as she is because I love that she’s brave enough to do whatever she feels like doing.”

Dolly Parton Wants Miley Cyrus To Play Her In A Future Biopic

In a conversation with Insider, Parton shared her thoughts on the possibility of her goddaughter playing her in a biopic. 

“I think Miley would be great,” she said. “She’s tall, but you can’t tell that in a movie.” The “Coat of Many Colors” singer jokingly added that Cyrus would “have to put on some weight and get some bigger boobs.”

Parton might trust her goddaughter to play her in a movie, but she has no faith in her culinary skills regarding food. She said she won’t eat Cyrus’ cooking because it would lack “taste.” 

“Even if she cooked me something, I’m sure I’d have to doctor it up a little for myself,” Parton stated. “I would have to have some bacon grease.”

Parton also recently opened up about her special bond with her goddaughter and the emotional experience of singing “Wrecking Ball” together during Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve Party.

As the duo rehearsed for their performance, Parton revealed Cyrus broke down while singing the poignant ballad. “Even when we were rehearsing, Miley cried,” Parton recalled. She added, “The fact that we were singing so well together greatly stirred up our emotions. She would have these tears coming down,, which was so emotional.”

During the heartwarming performance, “Wrecking Ball” was mixed with Parton’s hit “I Will Always Love You,” creating a mighty medley. Reflecting on the performance, Parton expressed that the authenticity and vulnerability they both brought were the keys to the show’s success. 

“I think that’s one of the reasons why the song sounded so good. We both put our heart and soul into it and felt what we were singing — and singing about.”
