Low pressure area in Southeast Bay of Bengal: Warning for fishermen

The Chennai Meteorological Center has informed that a low pressure area has formed in the Southeast Sea of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea.In this regard, the Chennai Meteorological Center has issued a report: There is a downward circulation of the atmosphere over the coastal areas of North Tamil Nadu.

A low pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea areas today (08.05.2023) morning. It is likely to intensify into a depression by 9th and intensify into a cyclonic storm over southeast and adjoining Mid-East Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea by 10th. It will move in north-northwest direction and may prevail over Central East Bay of Bengal by 11th. It may then turn north-northeast and move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast.

Today, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Theni, Dindigul, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Sivagangai districts are likely to receive heavy rain at one or two places.Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal will receive light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places on 9th.

From 10th to 12th, light to moderate rain may occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. The maximum temperature may gradually increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till 12th.

Chennai and its suburbs will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light/moderate rain with thundershower at a couple of places over the city. Maximum temperature will be around 36 degree Celsius and minimum temperature will be around 26-27 degree Celsius.

Cyclone wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph and occasional speed of 60 kmph may occur in Kumarik Sea, Gulf of Mannar areas, coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, South West Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sri Lanka on 8th.

Cyclonic winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and occasional speed of 60 kmph are likely to occur over Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea.

Cyclonic winds with a speed of 50 to 60 kmph and occasional speed of 70 kmph are likely to occur over Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea areas on 9th.

On 10th and 11th, cyclonic winds with a speed of 60 to 70 kmph and intermittent speed of 80 kmph are likely to occur over Southeast and adjoining Central East Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea areas.

Cyclonic winds of 80 to 90 km/h and occasional gusts of 100 km/h are likely to occur over Central East Bay of Bengal on 12th.

Cyclonic winds of 60 to 70 kmph and occasional gusts of 80 kmph are likely to occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea.Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas on the above days. Deep sea fishermen are advised to return to shore by the 8th.
