In a recent interview, J.T. warned Canadians about Pierre Poilievre and the Big Bad Conservatives wanting to take us back to the ’50s. Going back to the ’50s would be an improvement for most of the working class. Industrialization was rampant with no shortage of work, and people could afford a home and put food on the table. Yes, women were not treated as equals in many cases (no era is perfect), but both parents were not forced to work just to pay the bills, so staying at home to raise a family was, at least, an option. Ask any 30-year-old living in their parents’ basement, or couple looking for an affordable apartment so they can start a family, which era they might find living in easier.
(Yep, a return to the ’50s would sound pretty good … for some.)

Re: Trudeau? Bah, humbug; Canucks gave birthday boy a lump of coal for Christmas, Brian Lilley column, Dec. 26. Brian Lilley wrote that a petition signed by 386,698 Canadians called for the removal of Justin Trudeau from office. In interviews, Trudeau has made it clear he has no plans to step down. It is difficult for me to comprehend the massive ego and arrogance of the man to disregard the wishes of so many in Canada. On second thought, he does that all the time. He is the perfect example of the ‘Me’ generation. I can only hope the Lord God will bring an awareness to him of the damage his misguided policies and ideologies have brought down on the citizens of Canada and the destruction they are perpetrating on Canada, as a country, both at home and abroad. The respect earned by previous generations, often by the shedding of their own blood, has been destroyed — replaced with contempt. We have become the laughingstock of the world. The new year must bring a change in direction for Canada if it is to survive and prosper. The people to carry out this badly needed change will not be Justin Trudeau and his band of spoiled, misguided, out-of-touch children. Mr. Singh and the NDP should understand that by continuing to support this government they are, in essence, cutting their own throats. They stand together, they fall together. Mr. Trudeau, the best course of action would be to heed the will of the people you are supposed to serve and take that proverbial “walk in the snow”. SOON!
(Awareness is not his strong suit.)
It’s difficult to understand why Canada’s natural governing party seems to believe pro-Palestinian protests that justify the murder and torture of innocent civilians are OK but hard-working Canadians protesting to protect their bodily autonomy requires unprecedented punishment. It appears today’s Liberal party has morphed into what would be considered illiberal a decade ago.
(There’s been an ill wind blowing in Ottawa since 2015.)
