On June 6, 2024, France will celebrate the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the clutches of Adolf Hitler. An armada of allied troops began the Battle of Normandy with Canadians landing at Juno Beach that saw 2,000 perish. I think of the grieving families’ pain, whose loved-one’s tombstones are lined-up in rows at the well-kept Canadian War Cemetery in France. It’s sad to say that today many families are also grieving the loss of loved-ones because of the horrendous wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip.

EVs aren’t harmless
Re: “EVs just won’t cut it”, letter, May 9
Mining for all the necessary mineral ingredients for these EV batteries, is ecological rape at its worst.
The production of fossil fuel propelled ICE car is harmless by comparison.

Kicked in the gut
Why do newcomers get a free pass to our national parks? They should, perhaps, get a one day pass. With the way governments toss money around I never understood why we had to pay to use our national park, or provincial for that matter. These parks are for the people and should be free to visit for ALL. The cost to operate the park system should come out of the general operating budget. Perhaps using the money given to CBC would be a better use to fund these parks.

Shame on the feds
Re: Warren Kinsella’s: It’s your fight too!
I am fully onboard with Warren’s article. I am disgusted with our federal government’s position which looks to me that they support Hamas. My god, Hamas even sent them a letter thanking Trudeau and Jolie for their support. I fully support our Jewish communities across Canada and I apologize for how you are being treated by some Canadians attacking your synagogues, your schools, your businesses, the places you live and now at Canadian universities. The worst part of this is the silence and actions from our government leaders and our police.
Thank you, my Jewish friends. Your contributions to our world in fields like medicine, science and humanity will never be forgotten.
