Lorrie Morgan is among the most celebrated female country artists of the last 40-plus years.
As such, the legendary vocalist has certainly earned her place atop a list of mostly music-related events taking place around Regina.

1. Lorrie Morgan’s Ruby Anniversary Tour
Morgan’s latest visit to Canada will see her bring over four decades of musical achievements to the stage on Saturday night at the Casino Regina Show Lounge.

The Nashville native was the first female country artist to begin her career with three consecutive platinum albums. Her extensive catalogue of songs includes No. 1 hits Five Minutes, What Part of No, I Didn’t Know My Own Strength, and many others.

2. The Harpoonist
Canadian vocalist and harmonica virtuoso Shawn Hall (aka the Harpoonist) is bringing his rugged blues-rock sound to The Exchange on Friday night. Hall released a new album earlier this year, Did We Come Here To Dance, alongside Big Sugar frontman Gordie Johnson.
The Harpoonist is joined on Friday night by special guest Ethan K Bender’s Frequent Flyers Club.
On Saturday night at The Exchange, Regina-based alternative rock band Aurelia presents a cover show of emo pop-punk music called When We Were Young — Regina Edition.

3. Churchill’s finest hour
Australian recording artist Kim Churchill has travelled the world performing a blend of folk, rock and blues.
Now he’s coming to the Artesian on Saturday night with special guest Felipe Baldomir, an indie-folk singer from Uruguay who also resides in Australia.

Churchill recently released his seventh studio album, Dawn Sounds, which is described as “an earnest ode to the joyous peaks and liberating pits of life’s journey … (that) celebrates sentimentality and new beginnings.”

4. Canada vs. USA
Regina’s Lonsdale Boxing Club is hosting Battle of the Prairies XVIII on Friday night at the Conexus Arts Centre.
The Olympic-style bouts feature a competition between boxers from Western Canada and the U.S.
Meanwhile, the Laughter Begins Recovery Comedy Night runs Saturday evening in the CAC’s Jacqui Shumiatcher Room. The show is headlined by “That Canadian Guy” Glen Foster, an Ottawa native who has made multiple appearances on CBC’s Just For Laughs in addition to two of his own Comedy Network specials. He’s supported by Saskatchewan comedian Cheyenna Sapp of Little Pine First Nation (near North Battleford).

5. Keys to success
The Regina Symphony Orchestra is welcoming one of Canada’s most acclaimed pianists to town on Saturday night at the Conexus Arts Centre.
Calgary product Jane Coop has performed across Canada in addition to more than 20 other countries during her illustrious career, which includes being named to the Order of Canada in 2012 for her outstanding musical achievements.
On Saturday, she’ll join the RSO for a performance of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto No. 5. Also on tap is Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony No. 2.
