A shooting on Erie Street East has prompted an investigation by the Windsor police major crime unit.
Shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to reported gunshots in the street’s 700 block. There, they found several spent shell casings on the road and sidewalk.

A verbal fight had broken out between two males on foot and several people in a silver Ford Escape, police said in a media release on Monday.

As the SUV drove westbound, one of the males on foot pulled a firearm from his waistband and fired several shots at the vehicles, police said. The two males then fled eastbound, still on foot.
No physical injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
The shooting suspect wore light-coloured pants and a light-coloured shirt with dark sleeves and a dark hood.
Investigators urge residents and business owners in the area of the shooting to review any surveillance or dash camera footage for video evidence, specifically between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.

A separate shooting incident took place in the 800 block of Erie Street East on Jan. 31. That shooting left a restaurant building — Mezzo Ristorante and Lounge — punctured with bullet holes, though no injuries were reported.
Another shooting took place in Windsor’s Little Italy neighbourhood on August 15. Police identified two male suspects after a daylight shooting in the 900 block of Pierre Avenue that left a 33-year-old man with several gunshot wounds described at the time as serious but not life-threatening.
