Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ex-girlfriend Cassie, whose full name is Cassie Ventura, released a statement on social media following the release of hotel surveillance footage that appeared to show Diddy allegedly assaulting her in a hallway in 2016.
In an Instagram post on May 23, Ventura shared a message that thanked “family, friends, strangers and those” she has “yet to meet” for their love and support.
“The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning. Domestic Violence is THE issue,” she said. “It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past.”
The R&B singer also thanked those who have “taken the time to take this matter seriously.”
“My only ask is that EVERYONE open your heart to believing victims the first time,” she said. “It takes a lot of heart to tell the truth out of a situation that you were powerless in.”
“I offer my hand to those that are still living in fear,” she added. “Reach out to your people, don’t cut them off. No one should carry this weight alone. This healing journey is never ending, but this support means everything to me.”
Combs and Cassie split for good in 2018 after a tumultuous off-and-on romance that spanned a decade.
Cassie was just 19 when she met the music mogul, filed a lawsuit Nov. 16 in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan alleging that Combs raped and abused her during their time together.
The “Me & U” singer, 37, claimed in her lawsuit that Combs, then in his late 30s, pursued her as a up-and-coming singer signed to his music label, Bad Boy Records. The lawsuit said Combs was prone to “uncontrollable rage,” and beat and kicked Ventura, sometimes in front of the staff and employees of Bad Boy Entertainment.
Ventura, who married personal trainer Alex Fine in 2019, claimed that Combs raped her and forced her to participate in “intricately staged and forced sexual encounters” with male sex workers while he masturbated and filmed the encounters. She claimed Combs was able to control her after introducing her to “a drug-fueled lifestyle that kept her complacent and compliant.”
Combs’ attorney, Ben Brafman, responded to the lawsuit, telling NBC News in a statement that Combs “vehemently denies” Ventura’s allegations, calling them “baseless and outrageous lies.” He also said Ventura had demanded $30 million from Combs by threatening to write a damaging book about their relationship.

May 17, 2024: Diddy seen allegedly assaulting Ventura in hotel surveillance footage
Diddy appeared to allegedly assault Ventura at a hotel in 2016, according to surveillance footage obtained by CNN and released on May 17, 2024.
In Ventura’s 2023 lawsuit, she alleged Combs attacked her on March 5, 2016, while they were staying at the InterContinental Hotel in the Century City neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the video released by CNN, Combs ran down a hallway of the hotel, shirtless and wearing a towel around his waist, catching up to Ventura near an elevator bank and grabbing her by the neck. He throws her to the ground and kicks her several times while she’s on the floor, according to the footage of the alleged assault.
Combs is also seen dragging Ventura on the ground by her sweatshirt, and in another instance, is seen throwing a glass vase in her direction, per the footage of the alleged assault.
NBC News has not been able to independently verify the footage.
“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs,” Douglas H. Wigdor, an attorney for Ventura, said in a statement to NBC News after the release of the video.
“Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” he added.
Following the release of the video, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said in a statement posted on social media they would be unable to charge Combs in connection with the video.
“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the office said on May 17. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch.”
In the statement, the district attorney’s office said that due to the date of the alleged incident, they would “be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”
“As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services,” the statement concluded.
