- Deion Sanders’ son Shilo has filed for bankruptcy after losing a $12m lawsuit
- Shilo was accused of assaulting a security guard at his high school in 2015
- The plaintiff is accusing Shilo of hiding NIL earnings to avoid paying the penaltyÂ
Deion Sanders’ son Shilo has filed for bankruptcy in an apparent attempt to avoid paying $11.89 million to a high school security guard who successfully sued the Colorado football player over an alleged assault.
According to federal and Texas state court files obtained by DailyMail.com, Shilo was accused in 2015 of attacking John Darjean at Triple A Academy, a high school within the now-shuttered Focus Academies where Deion served as CEO.
Shilo allegedly slammed Darjean in the chest and continued to punch the security guard after he attempted to discipline the student for being disruptive and violating the school’s no-phone policy. Darjean filed a lawsuit in Dallas in 2016, claiming he ‘sustained severe and permanent injuries including a broken neck, damage to his cervical spine, permanent neurological injuries and irreversible incontinence.’
In a separate legal filing, Shilo acknowledges that an incident took place, but denies or claims he fails to remember many of Darjean’s accusations. DailyMail.com’s messages to Shilo’s attorneys went unanswered.Â
As first reported by Westword.com, the 24-year-old Shilo’s NIL earnings are also being called into question by Darjean’s legal team. The high-profile son of Colorado’s football coach has an NIL valuation of $1.1 million, according to On3.com, although the extent of his endorsement and marketing deals are not fully known to the public.

Shilo Sanders has worked with Louis Vuitton, causing attorneys to question his bankruptcyÂ
Shilo filed for bankruptcy in October, and two months later claimed in another filing to have just $320,477 to his name.
Darjean’s legal team has accused Shilo of failing to report all of his possessions and the attorneys point to his social media accounts to prove he has more to disclose.
‘Contrary to the schedules, Shilo has admitted acquiring vast amounts of high-end and expensive clothing,’ reads one filing. ‘For example, on his YouTube Channel posted on May 4, 2023, he states, ‘Alright we at the Louis (Vuitton) Store I am trying to spend at least $50,000 today.’
Shilo’s name is connected to a pair of LLCs, but according to a now-sealed January 29 filing, he ‘claimed to possess little to no knowledge of the formation or workings of’ either.
‘On the surface, this omission is as glaring as it is preposterous because it is Shilo’s very NIL value and/or public value that are the source of the non-stop paid engagements and social media appearances,’ Darjean’s attorneys continued.
‘… Shilo intentionally failed to identify and disclose his individual NIL property interest anywhere in the schedules.’
Shilo has denied failing to disclose his NIL contracts.
Darjean, meanwhile, has been accused by Shilo’s legal team of violating a court order by releasing his own self-made documentary about the case, titled: ‘Prime Time for Truth.’
In its April 29 response, Darjean’s legal team accused Shilo’s of attempting to violate his First Amendment rights.
Darjean’s attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Deion Sanders is entering his second season as Colorado’s head football coach. The Pro Football Hall of Famer also coaches another son, Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur.Â
Coincidentally, Darjean played minor league baseball in the late 1990s for the Yankees organization, where Deion began his own baseball career in 1989.Â
