A 23-year-old man, sought in connection with a shooting on Erie Street East earlier this week, was arrested Friday while trying to board an international flight.
Windsor police responded to a call for gunshots at 700 block of Erie Street East shortly after 4 a.m. May 19. A preliminary investigation revealed that a verbal altercation broke out on Erie Street East between two males on foot and several people in a silver Ford Escape.Â

As the sports utility vehicle drove west, one of the males retrieved a firearm from his waistband and fired several shots at the vehicle.
The two males fled eastbound on foot.  No injuries were reported.Â
Police identified the shooting suspect as a 23-year-old LaSalle resident. A warrant for his arrest was issued Friday afternoon.Â
In an update shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, police said the the suspect was apprehended in the Greater Toronto Area while attempting to board a flight leaving the country.
The suspect is wanted on the following charges:Â
- Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger the life of a personÂ
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace Â
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted weaponÂ
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm without holding a licence Â
- Possession of a concealed weaponÂ
- Contravening section 117(H) of the Firearms Act, respecting storage and transport of a firearm and restricted weaponÂ
- Failure to comply with a release order.Â

The arrest was made by Windsor police in collaboration with the OPP-led repeat offender parole enforcement squad and other law enforcement partners.
