The Essex Ravens’ senior varsity under-18 team made it back-to-back wins to start the Ontario Summer Football League season.
The Ravens rolled to a 37-5 win over the Niagara Spears on Saturday in the club’s home opener at University of Windsor Stadium.

The defence got Essex rolling with safety Kevin Rakowska picking off a pass and returning it 35 yards for a touchdown and defensive back Elijah Maxwell scooping up a fumble and returning it 23 yards for another touchdown.

Quarterback Lex McGarity scored a pair of touchdowns on one-yard runs and running back Donavyn Osman added the other major for Essex (2-0-0) against the Spears (0-2-0) on a five-yard run. Kicker James Carlini kicked a field goal along with a pair of converts and Rakowska also kicked a pair of converts.
The Ravens’ junior varsity under-16 team also moved to 2-0 on the season with a 44-16 win over the Spears while Essex’s bantam under-14 team is also 2-0 to start the season after a 38-18 win over Niagara.
Clippers earn split
The Windsor Clippers split a pair of Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B games on the weekend.
The Clippers rebounded on Sunday for a 7-6 overtime win at Forest Glade Arena over the Hamilton Bengals after falling 10-4 on the road Saturday against the Cambridge Highlanders.
On Sunday, Quinn Brennan got the overtime winner for the Clippers (5-6-0) against the Bengals (9-3-0).
Brennan and Hudson Dalpe each finished with two goals and an assist for the Clippers, who held a 49-37 edge in shots. Thomas Irwin, Ty Myers and Owen Arthur each added a single goal while Mason Myers-Whiteye and Jacob Cianci each picked up a pair of assists.

On Saturday, Brennan and Cianci each scored a pair of goals against the Highlanders (7-4-0), who were outshot 52-22 by Windsor.
Dupuy leads City
Gershom Dupuy scored twice to lead Windsor City FC to a 2-1 road win over St. Catharines Roma in League1 Ontario men’s championship division play on Saturday.
Dupuy scored in the 23rd minute to give Windsor (2-3-0) a 1-0 lead at half and extended the team’s lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 57th minute. St. Catharines (0-4-1) scored in the 69th minute , but that was the only shot to beat Windsor goalie Denys Cuevas.
