A class-action settlement in connection with multiple Yahoo data breaches between 2013-16 has been approved by the Ontario Superior Court.

The lawsuit alleges Yahoo had multiple data breaches because it didn’t have inadequate data security measures in place to protect account holders’ personal information.

Yahoo gave notice of the first breach (which took place in 2013) on Dec. 14, 2016, notice of the second breach (which took place in 2014) on Sept. 22, 2016, and notice of the third breach (which took place in 2015 and 2016) in February 2017.
Yahoo! Inc. and Yahoo! Canada Co. deny that they have violated any laws and deny that they have engaged in any wrongdoing.
A Canadian resident with a Yahoo account at any time during the period Jan. 1, 2012-Dec. 31, 2016, inclusive, who didn’t opt out of the class, is a “class member.”
Claims can now be submitted in category A (incurred expenses) or category B (for wasted time or inconvenience) with a valid claim form by Dec. 27, 2024.
