Oaks runners and riders guide
By Marcus Armytage
Likely a below-par renewal of the Oaks on all known form, but an interesting field assembled nevertheless. There are stamina questions to be answered for some of these, but likely they will not apply to the 2 fillies fielded by Aidan O’Brien, who looks to hold the keys here.
Ylang Ylang has long shaped like a filly who would appreciate further than a mile but whether she will relish as far as this trip remains to be seen on pedigree. However, there should be no stamina queries for Rubies Are Red, who made up an impressive amount of ground late on at Lingfield last time and is fanced to take plenty of beating here.
Caught U Looking (Jockey: Colin Keane; Trainer: Noel Meade) 25/1
Group 3 winning 2 year old who reappeared with a close-up effort behind Ezeliya at Naas. Has form to find with some of these and not certain to stay on pedigree; best watched.
Dance Sequence (Jockey: William Buick; Trainer: Charlie Appleby) 16/1
Below-par when well fancied in the 1000 Guineas, but the recent rain will suit, as will a step up in trip. Whether she wants this distance remains to be seen however; each-way player.
Ezeliya (Jockey: Chris Hayes; Trainer: Dermot Weld) 5/1
Very unexposed filly who comes forward off the back of a Group 3 win over 10 furlongs. This extra 2 furlongs could stretch her, for all she has leading form claims.
Forest Fairy (Rossa Ryan; Trainer: Ralph Beckett) 6/1
Wide margin winner on debut prior to running out a narrow winner of an okay Cheshire Oaks last month. Stamina assured but needs to raise her game still; each-way chance.
Making Dreams (Jockey: Clifford Lee; Trainer: Karl Burke) 66/1
Wide-margin winner of a moderate Group 3 in April, found out in better company subsequently. Recent rain likely to have helped but unlikely to be good enough.
Rubies Are Red (Jockey Wayne Lordan; Trainer: Aidan O’Brien) 15/2
Beautifully-bred filly who came from a long way back to be narrowly denied in the Lingfield Oaks Trial. Strongly fancied to prove the best of those and fancied to go close here.
Seaward (Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa; Trainer: Ralph Beckett) 40/1
Useful filly but has lengths to find with some of these. Recent rain might have gone against her; perhaps best watched on her toughest task to date.
Secret Satire (Jockey: Oisin Murphy; Trainer Andrew Balding) 12/1
Useful winner of a moderate renewal of the Musidora at York last month. Can raise her game here but surely needs to, especially with stamina questions to answer.
Treasure (Jockey: James Doyle; Trainer: Ralph Beckett) 14/1
Lightly raced, unexposed filly who takes in this test at just her 3rd start. Has work to do with the reopposing pair ahead of her last time but further progress is impossible to rule out; chance.
War Chimes (Jockey: Tom Marquand; Trainer: David Menuisier) 80/1
Made her last 4 starts in France and comes forward off two efforts this season that see her with plenty to find in this context. Deservedly priced like an outsider, for all that Tom Marquand is a positive jockey booking.
Ylang Ylang (Jockey: Ryan Moore; Trainer: Aidan O’Brien) 7/4F
The only Group 1 winner in the field and reappeared in the 1000 Guineas this season with an effort that suggested she was crying out for further. The class act, the one to beat.
You Got To Me (Jockey: Hector Crouch; Trainer: Ralph Beckett) 12/1
On the receiving end of a very efficient ride last time at Lingfield, will do well to confirm that form with Rubies Are Red. Unexposed but plenty more likely needed here.
