The Saskatchewan Roughriders have unveiled a new alternate uniform the team will wear twice during the 2024 CFL season.
Obsidian green — the darkest shade of green available before it turns to black — will be the primary colour of the alternate uniforms which will be worn at Mosaic Stadium during the team’s “Green is the Colour” game on July 19 and the fan appreciation game on Oct. 26.

“We’ve been working on this a long time,” said Riders’ president-CEO Craig Reynolds. “We’re just really excited to debut this for our fans and our players.”
The initial meeting for a new alternate jersey and logo was held in 2018 and since then, the design has undergone several changes before the final product was released on Thursday. However, there was one key concept to the new design that didn’t really change over the course of five-plus years.
Reynolds said a black jersey, similar to the one that were prominent in the early 2000s, was among the first ideas brought to the table. But the team wanted to put their own spin on it.
They eventually landed on obsidian.
“Right away you jump to black,” said Reynolds. “But we’ve already done black and we started thinking about what’s really important to the brand and green is so important to the brand.
“So that was paramount.”
While the team hopes the fanbase responds well to the new threads, the unveiling garnered quite a reaction from the current members of the Roughriders when they showed them to the team during meetings on Thursday.

“I love them,” said linebacker C.J. Reavis. “I’m so excited to wear these jerseys.”
“I think they did a tremendous job,” said quarterback Trevor Harris. “The guys got to see them firsthand today and the guys were a little disappointed that we don’t get to wear them for all nine home games.”
Along with a new colour of uniform, the Riders unveiled a new alternate logo designed by Bill Frederick of the New Jersey-based Fanbrandz, which features an italicized ‘S’ with emerald green on the top and traditional Roughrider green on the bottom.
A familiar wheat spike is found in the middle of the ‘S’, with 13 kernels paying homage to the fanbase, the 13th man.
