Jim Harrington, an insurance lawyer and U.S. property claims officer at Aon PLC, died suddenly May 29.
Mr. Harrington, 64, specialized in complex property insurance claims. Prior to joining Aon in 2018, he was a partner at Robins Kaplan LLP in Boston for 27 years.
Born in Boston, he graduated with a history degree from Harvard University before obtaining his law degree from Boston College Law School. He joined Robins Kaplan in 1984 and was named a partner in 1991.
A well-known industry figure and frequent speaker at insurance events, including the recent Riskworld conference in San Diego, among his accomplishments he was admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Harrington was “an artful negotiator” who helped secure millions in dollars of claims settlements for clients, said Jill Dalton, managing director of Aon’s U.S. property risk consulting group, in a LinkedIn post.
“He did this all with tremendous humility and the utmost integrity,” she said. “His sharp wit and self-deprecating sense of humor spoken through a classic Boston accent personally helped make my workdays much brighter.”
In a note to colleagues, Joe Galusha, head of risk consulting, North America at Aon, said: “He had an immediate and lasting impact on our firm, regularly talking clients and colleagues through crisis situations with a calm and steady hand.”
Mr. Harrington is survived by his wife, Pam, and two children.
