In a nail-biting finish, Namibia emerged victorious against Oman after a dramatic Super Over in Barbados. David Wiese and Gerhard Erasmus capitalized on Bilal Khan’s pace, smashing four boundaries to score 21 runs in the Super Over. Wiese then delivered a stellar bowling performance, conceding just 10 runs and taking the crucial wicket of Naseem Khushi.
Earlier in the match, defending a modest total of 110, Bilal Khan gave Oman a strong start by dismissing Michael van Lingen for a duck. Despite initial struggles with the uneven bounce, Nikolaas Davin and Jan Frylinck managed to preserve their wickets, taking Namibia to 32/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Oman’s captain Aqib Ilyas turned to his spinners and medium pacers to slow the scoring. Davin, after seven dot balls, hit Aqib for a six but was caught by Mohammad Nadeem on the next delivery. Consistent spin bowling by Aqib and Zeeshan Maqsood tightened Namibia’s scoring in the middle overs. Namibia’s captain, Erasmus, kept the chase steady with Frylinck, but eventually fell to Maqsood in the 15th over.
Frylinck accelerated the scoring, hitting boundaries to keep the required run rate in check. However, a brilliant 18th over by Mehran Khan saw him concede only four byes and claim JJ Smit’s wicket. A six from Wiese in the 19th over brought Namibia close, needing just five runs off the final over.
Mehran, having bowled excellently, took two more wickets in the final over, bringing the equation to two runs off one ball. Wiese missed the last ball, but a fumble by the wicket-keeper allowed the batters to steal a bye, sending the game into a Super Over.
Erasmus won the toss in the Super Over and elected to field first. Trumpelmann’s superb first over saw him trap Kashyap Prajapati lbw for a duck with a yorker, and he repeated the feat to dismiss Aqib Ilyas on the next ball. Trumpelmann claimed a third wicket when Khushi was caught at mid-off by Erasmus.
Despite Zeeshan Maqsod’s efforts to stabilize Oman’s innings, Bernard Scholtz had him lbw in the seventh over. Consistent breakthroughs by Scholtz and Erasmus stifled Oman’s batting, and the team went 44 deliveries without a boundary between the 10th and 17th overs. Oman attempted to accelerate in the death overs, but Wiese and Trumpelmann efficiently dismantled the tail, bowling Oman out before they could complete their overs.
Namibia’s thrilling victory in the Super Over highlights their resilience and skill under pressure, showcasing outstanding performances from Wiese and Trumpelmann.
