Tamluk: The Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, located in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, witnessed a high voter turnout of 84.79% during Phase 6 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections held on May 25. Known as part of the Adhikari family stronghold, Tamluk is poised between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), with both parties vying fiercely for the seat.
This election saw a significant contest between Debangshu Bhattacharya of the AITC, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay representing the BJP, and Sayan Bannerjee from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). The battle for Tamluk is particularly notable given its political history and the influence of the Adhikari family in the region.
In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dibyendu Adhikari of the AITC won the Tamluk seat, securing 50.08% of the votes and defeating Sidharthasankar Naskar of the BJP, who garnered 36.94% of the votes. The AITC has maintained control of the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat since 2009, winning it three times consecutively.
As the counting of votes approaches, all eyes are on Tamluk to see if the AITC can continue its winning streak or if the BJP will manage to make significant inroads in this politically crucial constituency.
