While there are those who say it would be no big deal to lower the voting age to 16 because younger people are already able to drive, have sex and get paid to work at that age, I beg to differ. Working is one thing, but driving and sex can have more dire consequences, and perhaps the age for those activities should be raised.

While there are arguments for both sides, one thing for sure is that at 16 years old, the majority (not all) of teens don’t have the maturity to make decisions that in turn affect an entire country. This was also the age range that were more likely to participate in the “Tide pod challenge,” so there’s that.

No, we shouldn’t be lowering the voting age … Let them grow up and actually have some skin in the game before they get to help decide our path.

MAYBE AN EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT?

Political parties need to be held to account on the promises they make to get elected. When we elected the Liberals to go green, did we think that meant a punitive carbon tax to manipulate us into poverty so we can’t drive as much? Force us to drive electric vehicles? Force the country to stop selling fossil fuels and destroy Canada’s income? Flood the country with migrants, causing a housing shortage, causing homelessness and putting prices out of reach for a lot of Canadians, resulting in young couples having fewer children?

Maybe we need an employment contract between constituents and their representatives with a recall option. We need to stop the abuse of political power we once trusted.
