Property crimes are down significantly from a year ago but crimes against people have risen by more than three per cent, according to the statistics released Wednesday by the Windsor Police Service.
The year-over-year crime overview for Windsor and Amherstburg provided Wednesday shows property crimes down 31.5 per cent compared to May 2023, with 786 recorded incidents in 2024.

Crimes against property covers break and enters, mischief charges, fraud, theft, arson or possession of stolen property.
Crimes against people rose 3.1 per cent when compared to May 2023 statistics, with 297 incidents this year.
Crimes against a person can include sexual violations, forcible confinement, assault, threats or harassment.
Other criminal code violations, including child pornography charges, administration of justice violations, non-violent weapons offences and gaming/betting offences were down 41.6 per cent. There were 132 incidents in 2024.
The report also broke down crimes statistics for the five-month period of January to May 2024.
Police say property crimes decreased by 3.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2023. There were 4,784 incidents this year.
Crimes against people increased 4.8 per cent, with 1,410 incidents during the first five months of 2024.
Other criminal code violations declined by 14 percent. There were 905 incidents since the beginning of the year.
A crime overview broken down by Windsor wards for May shows Ward 3, which encompasses the downtown area and stretches from Howard to Wellington avenues and Riverside Drive to Tecumseh Road, as having the highest number of both property crimes and crimes against people.
The ward with the lowest number of crimes is Ward 1, which covers the majority of south Windsor.
There are 10 wards in Windsor.
