The Regina Symphony Orchestra is preparing for a grand finale — times two.
Under the guidance of music director/conductor Gordon Gerrard, the RSO wraps up its 2023-24 schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader of intimate shows (2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) at Government House.
The twin bill highlights an interesting mix of entertainment options around Regina as we continue the slow-and-steady progression toward summer-time activities.

1. Going out on a high note
The RSO’s chamber players will be performing classics from a range of composers headlined by the iconic Ludwig van Beethoven (String Quartet Op. 18, No. 1).
The show also includes selections from Edouard Lalo (2 Aubades), Amanda Harberg (Suite for Wind Quintet), and Alexander Borodin (Polovtsian Dances).

2. Something’s brewing
Regina Brewing Inc. (1377 Hamilton Street) is hosting its inaugural street festival in the Warehouse District on Saturday (11 a.m. to 2 a.m.).
The festival includes a full day’s lineup of live music and entertainment, headlined by Regina rock band Route 99. The event also features various stage performances (including drag shows in conjunction with the Queen City Pride Festival), along with kids activities, food, vendors, local beer tasting, and more.

3. The Sound of Music
The Regina Christian School Association is bringing a classic Broadway musical to the Queen City with its presentation of The Sound of Music. The show’s four-day run concludes this weekend with performances on Friday and Saturday night at Darke Hall.

The Sound of Music is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp and was later adapted into a 1965 film starring Julie Andrews.

4. A hypnotic suggestion
Award-winning hypnotist Wayne Lee is at the Casino Regina Show Lounge on Friday night.
For over 20 years, Lee has been wowing audiences with an interactive program that’s “as unique as it is hilarious,” says a media release, adding that the show is a “tasteful performance with gut-splitting laughter that entertains and inspires in equal measures. As select audience members act out improbable scenes, participants experience the power of the human subconscious no longer inhibited by fears or self-limiting beliefs.”

Veteran roots musician Roy Earl Anderson brings a lifetime of experience to the stage on Saturday night at the Artesian.
