Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagat Jagat Prakash “JP” Nadda on Monday became the Union health minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s central cabinet for the second time on Monday after almost five years.
Hailing from Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh, Nadda (64) had earlier served as health minister from 2014 to 2019 and later succeeded Amit Shah as the part 2014 to 2019 and later succeeded Amit Shah the party’s national president in 2020.
He had also held the additional portfolio of chemicals and fertilisers. He is the only BJP leader from HP in this cabinet.
He had not contested HP’s 2012 assembly polls and was instead elected to the Rajya Sabha and inducted in Modi’s 2014 cabinet.
BJP chief Nadda took oath as Union Cabinet minister in PM Modi-led NDA government, marking his cabinet entry after serving as party since 2019.
