Eamonn Holmes found himself at the centre of a social media frenzy after a seemingly innocent Instagram post sparked fury from a couple of his 803,000 followers. The GB News presenter posted a video of the Royal Cavalry horses walking through London.
It was clearly taken from a car and the engine can be heard running as it waits for them to pass. He captioned the short clip: “Think Trooping of the Colours will go well.”
However, some of his followers jumped to the conclusion that he was behind the wheel and pulled him up on it. @joanne.hewitt7 chastised him writing: Brilliant but using your phone whilst in your car with the engine on is breaking the law ??????you always do this.” (sic)
@davidmetcalfe1986 raged: “Yeah cos using your mobile whilst driving and posting it online is a very clever thing to do ain’t it Eamon.” Indeed, he was so offended by the Northern Irish presenters post that he commented again, this time tagging the police. “@thamesvalleypolice Have a look at this! What is it with celebrities thinking they’re above the law,” he fumed.
However Eamonn was actually a passenger in the car which can clearly be seen at the end of the short film where his hand holding his phone to film is visible in the passenger side wing mirror. Others noticed this and were quick to pull up the outraged posters on it.
Eamonn has actually been unable to drive for some time due to his ongoing back issues. At the beginning of 2022 he admitted he felt “emasculated” after being forced to stop driving.
“I had to stop driving and sold my car back to the dealer too, which felt quite emasculating.
“I have to use a hook to pull my trousers up when I’m getting dressed in the morning and something else to get my shoes and socks on,” he said at the time.
More recently he has been seen using a wheelchair to get around on occassion as his ability to walk has been affected.
In January 2024 he admitted: “In the past year I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair. I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly you could not make it up.”
