Saskatchewan’s first-ever urgent care centre is set to open July 2 in Regina, marking a milestone in emergency care delivery for the province.
The facility, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), will act as an alternative to emergency departments in hospitals, providing immediate treatment for non-life threatening illnesses, injuries and mental health support to patients in need.

“Our government is pleased to see this urgent care facility reach this significant milestone providing care for residents requiring urgent but not life-threatening care,” Everett Hindley, the province’s health minister, stated in a media release on Tuesday. “We look forward to the positive impact this facility will have on the accessibility of appropriate health care services in Regina and the surrounding area.”
Located at 1320 Albert Street, the facility will begin accepting patients on weekdays and weekends from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., the SHA stated, but it will also ensure enough time to treat patients seeking care at the end of those scheduled hours.

The health authority plans to operate the facility in phases, with the second phase occurring in the fall when it will open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The phased approach is to ensure that the facility can provide patient care as soon as possible, while allowing staff and physicians time to acclimate to the model of team-based care after the centre’s opening.
