Re “Show more respect for integrity of our system” (Editorial, June 8): It is always said that the cover-up is always more egregious than the original crime. As if there was any doubt we know, as CSIS had predicted and the Hogue inquiry has now verified, China directly interfered in the 2019 federal election. Now Trudeau is not only refusing to turn over 1,000 documents to this inquiry, but also is refusing to come clean and inform Canadians the identities of those MPs who benefitted from China’s help. The fact those seeking public office would accept China’s help should greatly alarm everyone who values democracy and who wants clean elections. This repeated stonewalling is coming from Trudeau who promised in 2015 to run the cleanest and most transparent government ever. It seems a safe assumption based on sworn testimony from former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole it was not his party that was directly involved with China. O’Toole has repeatedly claimed that China’s interference cost his party nine or more ridings. Canada is being run like some dictatorship under the Trudeau government that continues hiding damning information from citizens.

(We need transparency. Trudeau needs to shine light on this so Canadians can have faith in the integrity of our democratic institutions. You have to wonder, what is he hiding – or who is he protecting?)

Re “Saying she ‘can’t be everywhere,’ Mayor Chow missed Walk for Israel” (Joe Warmington, June 10): Although it is quite appropriate for mayors to attend cultural festivals for groups within the community, they should not feel a need to participate in marches supporting particular countries. For example, although it would be quite appropriate for a mayor to attend a Greek or Indian cultural festival, I would find it strange if they attended a March for Greece or a March for India. One can support the culture and traditions of a group without necessarily supporting their ancestral homeland.
