Amidst growing calls for a CBI and Supreme Court-monitored probe into the NEET-UG exam controversy, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured that no student’s career would be jeopardized. The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently cancelled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates due to allegations of irregularities and inflated scores. A retest is scheduled for June 23, with results to be declared before June 30.
Pradhan emphasized the central government’s commitment to protecting the interests of NEET examinees. “I want to assure the students that all their concerns will be addressed with fairness and equity. No student will be at a disadvantage and no child’s career will be at jeopardy,” Pradhan stated on social media platform X.
He further noted that the facts surrounding the NEET examination are under the Supreme Court’s consideration and assured that the central government would take all necessary actions as per the court’s directions. The NEET counselling process will commence soon, and Pradhan stressed the importance of proceeding without confusion.
The Supreme Court, hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Hiten Singh Kashyap, has sought responses from the Centre and the NTA regarding a plea for a CBI probe into the exam irregularities. The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta also requested responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Bihar government within two weeks.
Criticizing the Modi government, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concern over the future of the 24 lakh students who took the NEET exam. Earlier, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole also demanded an investigation by a central agency.
The central government continues to face pressure to ensure transparency and fairness in the NEET examination process, with the upcoming retest being a crucial step in addressing the controversy.
