S&P Global Ratings Inc. expects the extreme weather events that caused massive destruction in South Africa’s Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces earlier this month to put pressure on the earnings of local insurers this year, IOL reported. Heavy rains with strong winds triggered severe flooding in most parts of the Eastern Cape, whereas a tornado hit Tongaat in Durban causing destruction.
