Villains. Faraway lands. Promises. Hopes dashed. All the makings of a sappy, once-upon-a-time Disney film have made their way into a lawsuit filed Tuesday by two members of Walt Disney Co.’s product design team.
According to the Washington Post, two employees, who filed their lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, say the company pressured them and several others to relocate from swanky Southern California to Orlando, Florida, where they had purchased new homes after selling their West Coast digs to join a new venture — plans that were squashed following battles with the Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Disney employees Maria De La Cruz and George Fong said the company in 2021 dazzled them with an opportunity to relocate to Lake Nona, a planned community in Orlando, under the promise of affordable housing, strong schools and a new office with extensive amenities, according to the lawsuit. Managers allegedly told the team that those who didn’t relocate would lose their jobs, according to the Post.
Disney has not responded to the lawsuit.
