The Simpsons has done it again, and fans are convinced another real-life event has been predicted by the beloved cartoon.
In recent years, The Simpsons writers have convinced us that they are, in fact, time travellers, getting a suspicious number of things right, from Donald Trump being elected as the President of America, Lady Gaga at the Super Bowl, and even the Coronavirus pandemic.
And yet another prediction looks to have come true, this time, involving a three-eyed fish.
A Reddit-user posted what appears to be a cod with three eyes, having been caught off the coast of Greenland just days ago.
And after the shock over the image of the mysterious creature wore off, people were quick to point out they’d seen something like this before.
‘BLINKY!’ @Erikmustride13 commented, while @HopefulStart2317 added: ‘Simpsons did it.’
‘Another Simpsons “prediction” came true!!’ @Because_They_Asked commented.
@tie-dye-me added: ‘It’s amazing to see Blinky in real life.’
‘First thing I said! SIMPSON FISH!!!’ @Sealie81 agreed, as @suer72cutlass wrote: ‘Omg! I was thinking the same thing!’
The three-eyed fish named Blinky appears in the episode Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish.
It was released back in 1990, and sees Bart catch a three-eyed fish.
Mr Burns then eats the fish, which is said to be mutated by pollution from his nuclear power plant.
The same episode arose last year when The Simpsons viewers saw a link between it and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida eating a fish.
The politician was videoed eating ‘safe and delicious’ fish from waters off the Fukushima coast to dispel safety concerns over the release of radioactive water.
It had previously been reported that The Simpsons writers weren’t just time travellers, but there was a theory behind them getting it so spot on.
It was claimed that the eerily accurate predictions, which recently included The Titanic submersible tragedy, and even the Willy Wonka experience fiasco, are all down to the writers’ background, explaining that most have backgrounds in maths and social sciences and therefore well versed in trends.
A YouTube video explained: ‘Unlike most other shows, The Simpsons writing team consists largely of writers who are extremely educated in fields ranging from mathematics to social sciences because of this they are also really connected to those that are on the cutting edge.’
The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean previously suggested to Metro.co.uk that the team didn’t have a sixth sense and were seeing into the future and instead were making ‘educated guesses.’
‘Most of the other things like Trump being President or Brazil winning the world cup are educated guesses,’ he told us.
‘Trump was considering being President back in the 90s. We wanted Germany to win because we went to Brazil to lose and Germany was the next best bet for the World Cup.
‘So, a lot of the things that we predicted are just, unfortunately, things you could see coming.’
