Actors often totally transform themselves for a role but Hollywood heavyweight Christian Bale is barely recognisable now.
The 50-year-old star shaved his head for his role in The Bride earlier this year but has kept up the startling look ever since.
When leaving a hotel in New York on Thursday, Christian had a freshly shaved head — a far cry from his familiar thick, almost-black hair.
He dressed casually in a black t-shirt, jeans, and trainers, with a blue and black backpack on his shoulders as he and his family left the hotel on June 20.
The American Psycho star held a coffee and a large white envelope in his hands as he headed into a car.
Last month, Christian was spotted decked out as the horror classic creature Frankenstien’s Monster as he filmed alongside Jessie Buckley.
This reimagining of Mary Shelley’s novel is set in 1930s Chicago where a lonely monster seeks out a companion – naturally resulting in his creator ‘reinvigorating’ a dead woman.
Jessie, 34, stars as the titular Bride who is more than the monster bargained for as she ignites a ‘radical social movement’.
Discussing his head shave in February, Christian said he had ‘got to’ get rid of his hair but had tried to play for time.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘I asked them to please let me hold off on doing that but everyone was going, “What’s wrong with Bale? What’s up with him?”
‘I said, “Just let me get through the groundbreaking and then I’ll be off to join you.”‘
Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, early set pictures show Christian in a large jacket and the familiar bolts in his neck and head.
By contrast, Jessie is in a flowing orange dress, with black blood splatters on her face and body and a bright platinum blonde wig.
Christian’s family have been staying with him in Manhattan as he films, with his nine-year-old son, Joseph, joining him on set for a small role in the film.
The youngster, who goes by Rex was dressed in a full paper boy costume as he acted his heart out next to his father.
Christian shares his son with wife, Sibi Blazic, 52, who he married in 2000, and they also share a daughter Emmeline, 18.
Over his career, the Oscar winner has never been afraid of total transformations for roles, including gaining 60lbs for The Machinist.
Joking about transforming to become the monster (who is called Frankenstein in the film, sorry book fans), he continued to THR: ‘I’ve got to get busy getting on the rack, breaking my bones and eating lots of fertilizer or something to try and grow.’
The Bride! is set to hit cinemas on October 3, 2025, and will go toe to toe with Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein.
