A woman and a child were rescued at Hog’s Back Falls on Sunday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call reporting that the woman and child had fallen into the Rideau River, but had managed to climb up on to some rocks at the base of the rapids on the west side of the river.
Ottawa police made contact with them and firefighters managed to help them out of the water and up an embankment to safety before they were assessed by paramedics, Ottawa fire said in a news release Sunday.
Also Sunday, Ottawa fire took a 911 from someone on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River that a man was in the water, screaming for help. The man was able to reach a small island on his own, and was then rescued by a kayaker and brought to shore. Firefighters were on their way to that call when they received another call about a second person in the water and in the need of help. The water rescue crew brought that person to safety.
