A strong 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of central Peru on June 28, with the tremors felt in Lima and a large part of the southern and central coast of Peru, Firstpost reported. Juan Aranguren, the mayor of Yauca district in Arequipa’s Caraveli province, said the quake caused cracks in a major highway running through the area. The tremors also initially triggered a tsunami threat, but it was later passed.
