Athletes with local ties grabbed nine medals at the Canadian track and field trials in Montreal.
Malik Metivier, who now lives in Windsor and trains with the Border City club, captured the senior men’s 400 metres in 45.44 seconds.
It was one of five medals for Border City athletes. Ellas Steel-Douglas won a silver medal in the under-20 women’s long jump with a best effort of 5.48 metres. She also teamed with Marissa Madia, Susan Adenitan and Jaela Bailey to take a silver medal in the under-20 women’s club 4×100-metre relay in 46.73 seconds.

Dakari Milks earned a bronze medal in the under-20 men’s 200 metres in 21.24 seconds while Drezdon Howe also earned a bronze medal with a time of 14.32 seconds in the under-20 men’s 110-metre hurdles.
Running for the University of Windsor club team, Nicholas Neri took the senior men’s para ambulatory 800 metres in a time of 2:04.35.
Windsor’s club team also got a two-medal effort from Emma Negri, who won a bronze medal in the under-20 women’s discus with a throw of 42.48 metres, and a bronze medal in the hammer throw with a best effort of 49.35 metres.
Former Lancer Sarah Mitton, who is headed to the Olympic Games in France, won the senior women’s shot put with a throw of 19.62 metres.
Baraslievski steps aside
Mike Baraslievski has stepped down as head coach of the St. Clair College Saints men’s soccer team after 31 seasons.
Over that stretch, Baraslievski has guided the Saints to four OCAA medals and a national bronze medal. He was named OCAA West Division coach of the year on eight occasions and named the conference’s top coach three times while earning St. Clair’s coach of the year twice.

Ravens drop Stampeders
Quarterback Lex McGarity threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another to help the Essex Ravens’ under-18 team to a 27-14 win over the Burlington Stampeders in Ontario Summer Football League play on Saturday.
Receiver Nathan Smith had five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns while James Carlini hit two field goals and converted all three scores.

Windsor City FC rallied for a draw in League1 Ontario men’s championship division play on Saturday while Tecumseh United FC fell in women’s championship division play.
Matthew Andres scored on a penalty in the 55th minute for the only goal of the second half as Windsor City FC rallied to earn a 2-2 tie with Scarborough Master’s FA. Jonathan Agapito opened the scoring for Windsor (3-5-2) against Scarborough (2-5-3).
Savannah Baillargeon had the lone goal for Tecumseh (2-7-1) in a 4-1 loss on Sunday to Brampton Prostars FC (4-4-2).
