It’s come to our attention that not everyone yet has experienced the joy that is Calvin and Hobbes. Maybe it’s because they have been waiting for the right moment to dive in. Maybe they grew up without knowing about Bill Watterson’s seminal comic series. Whatever the reason, let’s fix that. The Complete Calvin and Hobbes is on sale now ahead of Prime Day’s official kickoff for a steep discount. How steep? The four-volume paperback collection is on sale for (50% off its list price of $135) while the three-volume hardcover edition is $125 (44% off its list price of $225).
Both collections feature every Calvin and Hobbes cartoon that appeared in syndication, which ran from 1985 until Watterson’s retirement at the start of 1996. The story of a boy with a vivid imagination and his best friend (a stuffed tiger, naturally) defined many a childhood— and has served as a wildly relevant comfort during some of our hardest collective years.
For those that already have this collection and are looking to put more Bill Watterson on their bookshelves, we recommend checking out The Mysteries, which is also currently on sale for 40% off. The Mysteries is a “fable for grown-ups” and a collaboration between Watterson — who came out of retirement for this project — and illustrator John Kascht. If you need to know more, the pair released a rather charming video last year about their work together.
