Canadian superstar Justin Bieber has reportedly been paid $10 million to perform at a pre-wedding event for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant on Friday in Mumbai, India.
The upcoming nuptials will see Anant, youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, the wealthiest man in Asia, wed Radhika, daughter of Indian industrialist Viren Merchant. The ceremony will take place July 12, but there are numerous celebrations beforehand, including the July 5 event featuring Bieber.

Not only did the father of the groom shell out $10 million for Bieber’s appearance; he also sent his gold-coloured bulletproof Mercedes-Benz to pick him up from the airport on Thursday. The convoy included several Range Rovers carrying armed guards. Bieber was collected from the private jet terminal, although it’s unclear whether the 30-year-old flew in on his own aircraft or on one provided by his hosts.
The latest pre-wedding event was to take place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, a 2,000-seat venue commissioned by the groom’s mother. Modelled on Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars) it features a ceiling studded with 8,400 Swarovski diamonds.

If Bieber’s reported fee is accurate, it would mean he outcharged the likes of fellow performers Rihanna — said to have earned between $8 million and $9 million for an earlier appearance at another pre-wedding event — and Akon, who came in at the bargain-basement price of $500,000.
The singer is said to typically charge between $2.5 million and $6-million for a private performance, and booking agents Seattle Entertainment Group confirmed his minimum fee for a private gig is $2 million, suggesting this might be the most he’s ever earned from a single performance.
Bieber is appearing at the third and final pre-wedding event. Following a three-day celebration in Jamnagar, India, in March, a second event took place on an extravagant cruise in Italy and the South of France at the end of May. Entertainers at that fete included Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, Pitbull, Guru Randhawa and the Backstreet Boys.
As to which singers might perform at the wedding itself, there are rumours of talks involving Adele, Drake, and Lana Del Rey. No word on what they might charge.
