Stock market LIVE updates on Thursday, July 4: The Sensex topped the 80,300-mark in opening trade on Thursday, while the Nifty50 surpassed 24,350 levels, extending their record hitting run amid supportive global cues.
The BSE benchmark hit a record high of 80,375, and was trading at 80,215, up over 200 points. The Nifty50, on the other hand, hit a fresh lifetime high of 24,401, and was quoting near about 24,350 levels.
While HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, TCS, Infosys, M&M, Tata Motors, and Asian Paints were lending support, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Ultratech Cement, Adani Ports, and Tech M were weighing on the frintline indices.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap, and SmallCap indices were also off highs, up 0.15 per cent and 0.21 per cent, respectively.
Sectorally, the Nifty IT index was the highest gaining index (up 1.3 per cent), while the Nifty PSU Bank, and Bank indices were the top laggards (down 0.5 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively).
