Re: ‘If anyone deserves to be Canadian, it’s them’: Community rallies around a family slated for deportation, online, June 28
A well-liked and happily settled family from the Chesterville community, hoping for refugee status, has been denied. The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada has ordered it out of the country by July 19. The family faces deportation to Mexico, though its members came here because of extortion from the criminal cartels.
Canada has several terrorists, murderers and gang-related people still in the country who break the law all the time and should have been deported. These people know “the system” so it takes years and years to get them booted out.
This law-abiding and hard-working family has been here a few years. This heartless refugee board told family members they could live in a safer place in Mexico to avoid the cartel. Why don’t the refugee hearing officers relocate there for few months and face the cartel? What a mess the immigration department is!

BROKEN JUSTICE SYSTEM
Re: HUNTER: That stench? It’s Canada coddling violent criminals, online, June 28
Since the Trudeau government came to power in 2015, violent crimes in Canada have risen dramatically. That is obviously the direct result of the current revolving-door justice system, whereby deterrence is often not a part of sentencing. The priority seems to be getting those accused of serious crimes back on the street asap without imposing serious bail conditions. Even crimes against very vulnerable young children often do not receive stiff sentences.
Another problem is many Trudeau-appointed justices seem to be social justice warriors. Many wonder how much more will our justice system be eroded before drastic action is taken to get it back doing the job of protecting citizens.

GUN BAN WORKING JUST FINE
I see the ban on guns by Justin Trudeau is working about as well as his government. Once again, Bytown has suffered another shooting, which is usually in the ByWard Market area, Lowertown or in disenfranchised community housing. There are many reasons for this: the useless stupid ban itself, no more “carding” by the cops and lack of sentencing for offenders committing crimes with firearms.
More cops on our streets instead of all these fancy squads would go a long way in bringing these incidents down and making our capital safer.
