Veritas Pension Insurance Co., a Finland-based pension fund, announced Tuesday it has promoted Laura Wickström to CIO from deputy CIO. Wickström, who had been serving as interim CIO since Kari Vatanen stepped down in April, began her tenure as CIO on July 1.
“Laura has precisely the experience and market understanding that is required in this demanding position,” said Carl Haglund, CEO of Veritas, in a statement.
Veritas provides pensions, insurance and other benefits for 120,000 beneficiaries, which include 66,000 active employees and 15,000 entrepreneurs, with 39,000 beneficiaries receiving pension payments. At the end of the year’s first quarter, Veritas had 4.27 billion euros ($4.62 billion) in assets under management.
“It is great to work as a part of the Finnish pension system and have the opportunity to further develop the investment operations together with a professional and competent organization,” Wickström said in a statement.
Wickström was appointed deputy CIO in 2018, managing the fund’s private equity and other illiquid fund investments. Previously, she was CEO of Finnish alternative asset manager AIM Capital. She was also an equity sales analyst at Granite Financial Group and at Alfred Berg, working within fixed-income institutional sales.
Wickström earned a master of economics degree from the Helsinki School of Economics
