A summer program aimed at offering youth activities and supervision in a downtown Windsor park is back for a second year.
The City of Windsor is again partnering with the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative to offer the “SUPIE” program at Mitchell Park.
The program runs seven days a week, from 4:30-8:30 p.m., until August 31 and includes sports, recreation, active and passive games, arts and crafts, and more.

“I’m really happy to see this program back for another year,” said Ward 3 Coun. Renaldo Agostino, who helped spearhead the program in 2023 after hearing about some aggressive behaviour among kids in the park.
“It’s just a fun thing to do.”
The city said last year’s program, which had more than 160 kids sign up, contributed to an increase in park utilization, community engagement, and overall park satisfaction.
“Part of turning downtown into a neighbourhood is having fun things for kids to do,” Agostino said. “This is one of those things. (The program) is about mentorship and leadership — there’s activities and sports, It’s all of those things.”
It also helped decrease the number of “undesirable activities” occurring within the park, according to the city.

“Another benefit of the program was its ‘barrier-free’ approach in which recreation services were brought directly to an area of the city that is underrepresented in other recreation programs and services,” the city said in a statement.
Participants are required to register for the “Mitchell Park Program” at either activewindsor.ca or by calling 519-255-1161. The park is located off Giles Boulevard between Bruce and Dougall Avenue.
