Rauw Alejandro’s latest single “Touching the Sky” gives fans a dreamy glimpse at his next chapter.
The Puerto Rican singer, known for his experimental reggaeton-pop fusion and upbeat dance moves, released the song ahead of his upcoming fifth studio album. “Touching the Sky” brings a flirty, summer energy; a sound that is reminiscent of developing a crush and navigating how to proceed with the feeling.
The music video for the single features a love story, musical-esque choreography, timeless outfits worn by Alejandro and his dancers, and the romantic streets of New York City. The 31-year-old performer can be seen dancing around comparing the desires towards his love interest to the possible euphoric feeling of “touching the sky.”
While “Touching the Sky” seems to be the first single for his next album, Alejandro has not announced the album’s release date — but has been vocal about its imminent release. “It’s not ready yet, but I hope soon,” he told TODAY.com. “These songs (are) too good to be inside the studio.”
Following the success of “Saturno” (2022) and “Playa Saturno” (2023), albums that connect in their pop, synth and urban sounds that feel equally essential to a beach day or a night out, “Touching the Sky” offers a perfect beginning for Alejandro’s next chapter, which he teased to TODAY.com.
“This new era, it’s a little bit more classic, a little bit ‘West Side Story,’ more Broadway,” Alejandro said.
In recent weeks, Alejandro has shared on social media more vintage-style photos at the Kentucky Derby, at a parking lot and more. His Instagram feed features tailored suits, Gatsby hats, pool tables and black and white portraits, representing his intentional creative vision for this new era.
Alejandro will be performing “Touching the Sky” during his performance as part of TODAY’s Citi Concert Series on the 30 Rock plaza on Friday, July 12.
