New Delhi, India – The Congress Party launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district that claimed the lives of four army personnel, including a Major-rank officer, late Monday night.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took to social media platform X to criticize the BJP’s policies, which he blamed for the continued loss of lives in the troubled region of Jammu and Kashmir. Gandhi described the incidents as “sad and worrying,” stressing the urgent need for accountability.
“It is the demand of every patriotic Indian that the government should take full responsibility for the repeated security lapses and take strict action against the culprits who harm the country and our soldiers,” Gandhi wrote on X.
“These repeated terrorist attacks expose the deteriorating situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Our soldiers and their families are bearing the brunt of BJP’s flawed policies,” he added.
The encounter in Doda occurred just a week after a similar terrorist ambush in the remote Machedi forest belt of Kathua district, which resulted in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to several others. The escalation of terror activities in the Jammu division has prompted extensive joint combing and search operations by police and security forces.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed condolences on X, criticizing the Narendra Modi government for what he perceived as complacency.
“The Modi government is behaving as if everything is ‘business as usual’ without acknowledging the changing security landscape,” Kharge wrote. He highlighted the growing frequency of attacks in the Jammu region and called upon the Centre to prioritize national security.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh echoed similar sentiments, questioning Prime Minister Modi’s assurances.
“While we need a united response across political lines, we must also question the gap between promises and reality made by those in power,” Ramesh remarked.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, conveyed her condolences and extended support to the families of the deceased soldiers.
According to PTI, Monday night’s encounter marked the third significant incident involving security forces and terrorists in Doda district over the past three weeks. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s office confirmed his continuous engagement with the Chief of Army Staff to monitor ongoing anti-terror operations in the area.
