Eamonn Holmes has shared the latest steps in his recovery, and fans have praised the GB News presenter for his ‘mental resilience’.
The 64-year-old’s chronic pain started when he slipped three discs in 2021 and underwent spinal surgery the following year.
Eamonn, who has recently split from Loose Women star Ruth Langsford after 14 years of marriage, then suffered a major setback when he fell down the stairs.
The TV star has been using a walking frame and crutches to aid his mobility, then two weeks ago, he explained standing up was still difficult for him.
Alongside, the snap posted on Instagram he added to his 800,000 followers that his next aim was to walk, and a piece of machinery is now helping him to reach that goal.
In the latest health update, Eamonn proudly showed off a new device that is enabling him to take steps more easily again.
‘This is my latest exploit. This is what is called an anti-gravity treadmill,’ he explained while putting the machine to use.’
Explaining how it works, he said: ‘The reason it’s called anti-gravity is you’ll see down here, I’m being supported by quite a big balloon. The balloon holds my weight.
‘What it does is the machine, I can walk and run in this. It helps my legs and body remember what it was like to move like this before things went wrong.
‘This gives me a certain amount of freedom and the idea is that I build up muscle memory and things will happen, hopefully in the future.
‘For the moment, I’ll do half an hour on this, cheers,’ he concluded.
Some of his 800k followers filled the comment section with support for Eamonn, as he embarks on the next stage of his recovery.
‘This is great, huge steps in the right direction!’ wrote Miss Paula London.
Davinia Taylor added: ‘Love this 🔥🔥 superb mental resilience and an incredible inspiration for us all.’
Penelope McKeague shared well-wishes and acknowledged the difficulty of the journey. ‘Losing mobility is such a struggle. I sincerely hope things improve for you and that you will be skipping along soon,’ she wrote. While Kath Hanson typed: ‘Keep going Eamonn!! We’re all behind you x.’
Throughout the past few years, Eamonn has been honest about his struggles with his new reality.
Speaking on GB News, he said: ‘I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so, and it’s horrendous.
‘I have to have carers to do the smallest, simplest thing.
‘It’s humiliating, it’s humbling, and thank goodness that the carers are available.’
‘It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair,’ he said on another edition of the news programme.
‘I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly, you could not make it up.’
‘I get resentful that I’m not the way I used to be but I just get on with it,’ he candidly stated.
Prior to their separation, Ruth told Woman’s Weekly: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.
‘He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.
‘With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.’
