Continuous and heavy rainfall in Mumbai has significantly disrupted flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, prompting major airlines to issue advisories to passengers. IndiGo reported that persistent rains are causing periodic delays in their flight schedules, urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
“We are relentlessly working to ensure smooth operations and expect these delays to significantly reduce once the weather improves,” IndiGo stated. Similarly, Air India alerted its passengers about potential disruptions, advising them to start early for the airport due to slow traffic and waterlogging.
SpiceJet echoed these concerns, noting that all departures and arrivals, as well as their consequential flights, might be impacted by the adverse weather conditions. Passengers were urged to monitor their flight status regularly.
Flight operations at Mumbai airport were briefly suspended on Thursday morning due to poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Operations resumed after about 20 minutes, with visibility recorded at 1000 meters and Runway Visual Range (RVR) at 1200 meters at 10:55 am.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reviewed the heavy rain and flood situation affecting various districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kolhapur, and Sangli. He instructed disaster management systems and district administration officials to provide prompt assistance in rescue and relief efforts. Pawar also advised residents to step out only if necessary and to exercise caution while traveling.
