According to an estimate by Bangladesh’s business community, the country’s economy suffered losses of over $1.2 billion in the past five days, as mass student protests over job quotas and internet blackouts gripped the country, Al Jazeera reported. The internet blackout imposed on July 18 hit almost all businesses and industries. The shutdown and communications blackout severely affected the garment sector, which is responsible for over 80% of the country’s exports.
