Electronics and furniture retailer Conn’s HomePlus has filed for bankruptcy and is closing nearly half of its 170 stores, including five in Virginia and two in the Richmond area.
The stores on Nine Mile Road in Richmond and on Southgate Square in Colonial Heights are closing. The three other Virginia locations are in Portsmouth, Hampton and Virginia Beach. A full list of store closings is available at www.conns.com/store-closings.
In a news release Thursday, Conn’s announced discounts of 30-50% for all in-store and online merchandise.
“B. Riley Retail Solutions, LLC is managing the liquidation event, both online and in over 550 stores across Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia,” the release said. “Store furnishings, fixtures, and equipment are also available for sale.”

The Nine Mile Road location opened in 2017 and was an anchor tenant in the new Eastgate shopping complex. It was the only new store for entire company that year.
The Colonial Heights location was the company’s third store in the area when it opened in 2018. In April 2017, the company opened a store at 7260 Midlothian Turnpike.
