Adeleide-based musician Elsy Wameyo has shared her debut album ‘Saint Sinner’ in full.
The songwriter caught our ear with a series of vivid single releases, blending genres to find her own voice. A third culture child who grew up between continents, work on her debut album took Elsy from Adelaide back to Kenya.
Sessions were split across different countries, with Elsy Wameyo trying to be as true to her instincts as possible. The results are powerful – debut album ‘Saint Sinner’ is out now, and there’s a soulful dexterity to her work.
Honing in on themes of identity and spirituality, Elsy takes her music deeper. Locating a space for truth at long last, there’s a sense of relish as she picks apart her story.
“I know I had always yearned to say these certain things; I never found the perfect way to say it.” Elsy says. “Especially when you’re a young black girl, no one is encouraging you to speak your mind. I know for a fact that these are words that I’ve definitely sat with for a long time.”
Tune in now.
