Silas Short returns with new single ‘ILIKEU’.
The soulful aesthete grew up in and around Milwaukee, raised in a family who adored music. Soaking up everything from the adoration of gospel through to the boundaryless voyages of free jazz, his EP ‘Drawing’ represented a space for these sounds to coalesce.
Now splitting his time between Chicago and LA – two cities with their own distinct music traditions – Silas Short is forging his own path. Working with Stones Throw, he leans on the jazzier edge of neo-soul, while also giving those influences a neat twist.
Out now, ‘ILIKEU’ is a tender song of infatuation, tapping into the initial buzz of meeting someone you’re interested in – and it’s reciprocated.
There’s a soft analogue edge to the sonics, and this is mirrored in the video – directed by Jackie Radinsky and Silas, which boasts visual cues of the famous 1983 Maxell commercial, The Matrix and Gregg Araki’s Nowhere.
Keep ’em peeled for Silas Short chatting to his beloved through a massive, over-sized phone… as you do.
Tune in now.
