Haliey Welch, also known as the Hawk Tuah girl, said she thinks that Canada has no toilets, only outhouses.
Welch, who is from a small town in Tennessee, became an overnight sensation after doing a (slightly unconventional) interview with content creators Tim and Dee TV.
The video went viral, with more than six million views on YouTube after it was posted on the platform in June. Welch quit her job working at a bed spring factory, entertainment magazine People reported, capitalizing on her 15 minutes of fame. She started selling merchandise branded with her now infamous, not safe for work phrase, Hawk Tuah.

Since, she has been on radio shows and made appearances at concerts. “I never could’ve dreamed that making a silly little joke would lead to all of this but I’m so grateful for this blessing,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
More recently, she did an interview with American comedian and television personality Bill Maher, released on July 28.
During the hour-long interview on Maher’s podcast Club Random, they discussed music, evolution, history — and somehow, Canada came up. Welch’s perception of the country left Maher a little baffled.
He asked Welch what kind of house she had in Tennessee, wondering, jokingly, if it was the kind that “had a bathroom out back.”
“They don’t have an outhouse where you throw mulch on your s—. I think that’s a thing they do up in Canada,” she said, around the podcast’s 55 minute and 25 second mark. “Don’t they have outhouses in Canada?”
“In Canada?” Maher asked, seeming not to understand what Welch meant by the comment.
“They don’t flush. You just throw s— on it,” she said.
“I certainly wouldn’t single out Canada,” Maher replied.
Welch said that’s what she was told about the country.
