Ubisoft have unveiled their newest game in partnership with the American NFL, an American football-focused card game called NFL Primetime Fantasy. Based on the popular concept of fantasy football, Primetime Fantasy will see you collect cards and make decisions during NFL regular season and playoff games in real-time, alongside your friends.
Fantasy football is a concept most of us know, but few understand. The very basics are that you select your own team based on real-life NFL players. The way these players perform in real games then contributes to your team’s overall scores and governs whether or not they ‘win’ games.
Primetime Fantasy looks set to continue that interplay of gaming and real-world action by making decisions during actual NFL games that can then boost their team’s ‘fantasy’ score. Naturally, the official partnership also means there’ll be plenty of live events, access to the official NFL roster and more.
In the palm of your hand
Fantasy football has proven to be a hugely popular hobby amongst many people, including those who’d decry traditional math and statistics-based board games. However, Primetime Fantasy looks set to try and push it to the next level with global leaderboards and gameified aspects such as boosts and, of course, card collecting.
Whether or not it proves to be a new iteration to please traditional fantasy football fans, or brings in a whole new audience depends on how it performs when it releases for iOS and Android in November.
