A man has been arrested after “hate-motivated” incidents targeting members of the local Muslim community, said Chatham-Kent police.
The incidents occurred in the vicinity of Prince Street North in Chatham, police said.
A 19-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of uttering threats, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief of less than $5,000, police said.

The man made a court appearance on Wednesday and was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 7, police said.
No details regarding what occurred were provided by police.
“The Chatham-Kent Police Service is committed to addressing these serious incidents,” stated a media release Thursday. “We believe hate has no place in our community, and we recognize the lasting effects these events can have on everyone.”
Police have been in contact with local leaders of the Muslim community to update them on the investigation and offer supports, police said.
